Another quality piece from Canes All Access, breaking down the quarterback competition and getting into the latest UM scandal. This thirteen minute-plus piece is worth the watch for many reasons.
As always, the Canes All Access piece lives up to its name, giving you “all access” to what goes on with the day-to-day and behind the scenes. With all the recent on-campus drama at ‘The U’, it’s been relegated to sound bits, quick quotes and reporters’ personal opinions. With this video, the story becomes a bit more human.
Outsiders can run their mouths and pontificate about what head coach Al Golden knew or didn’t know and whether he’ll stay or go, but it feels better getting the story from Golden, as opposed to a nation writer in Bristol, CT who didn’t even speak to the man.
This video shows a focused head coach and that is rubbing off on his players, who are taking this in stride and seem to be channeling their energy properly.
Around the 5:47 mark you hear Mike James talking about the team’s reaction to the news, wondering how Coach Golden was going to respond. This goes back to a common theme discussed here – the notion that young men want guidance. They look up to the father figure coaches in their life and whether they admit it or not, want to be shown the light.
You can’t compare apples to apples how former head coach Randy Shannon would’ve handled this in comparison to Golden, but you can flat out see players taking on the calm, cool, collected personality of the head coach.
At the 6:47 mark James reiterates this when he says, “The way he [Golden] handled it was like … it was like he was prepared for it. I just don’t know how he did it.”
The video shows a confident, mature bunch that was prepared to talk with the media NCAA – especially James and Tyler Horn – who Golden chose to first speak on the team’s behalf.
Golden talks of “weathering the storm” and gives a hurricane-based preparation analogy, while going psychological with a viewing of “March Of The Penguins” in effort to push brotherhood and leadership. After the viewing, players shared their opinions on what they saw – proving the “got it”.
Guys talking about “core values”, the brotherhood and the “Deserve Victory” handbook – emblazoned with “Goals + Execution = Outcome” and “Uphold The Legacy”. You see before your very eyes that these kids have gone all in on their new coach’s belief system.
Miami may be eight men down on Monday night, but they’ll be a program lifted as this new season kicks off – with an entire squad both mentally and physically better than it was in 2010.
