Miami Football Receives $4.2M Donation

What a novel concept – the University of Miami received a $4.2M donation today and there are no strings attached and no booster looking to get something back for his or her investment in the program.

Mary B. Hecth passed away back in 1982, but has fulfilled a promise made thirty-five years ago in her last will and testament.  The $4.2M donation was a gift that could not be executed until the recent passing of the income beneficiary of her estate.

“We are very moved by this wonderful gift. Mary Hecht was a passionate supporter of her favorite team, the Miami Hurricanes, and now her generous legacy will help future generations of student-athletes fulfill their dream to get a great education and play for the ‘U,’” UM President Donna Shalala said in a statement.

For a program always in need of a buck, over four million of them making up the largest endowment ever for football scholarships at ‘The U’ is huge.

Choke on that, Nevin Shapiro. You’ve been one-upped by someone who’s been gone since a year before UM’s first championship.
