Raising Canes : From Overtown To UM

A new ‘Raising Canes’ video was released days back. This piece, the third installment from Season Two is titled, “From Overtown To UM”. Check out this recent piece and for those looking for clips from Season One, “The Start Of The Golden Era” has been released on DVD.

Besides some great background on running back – and Overtown product – Eduardo Clements, this is another All Access piece that focuses on another success story, driven by head coach Al Golden.

Clements wears his former lack of worth ethic and minimal effort conditioning-wise on his sleeve. The junior back has gone from the type of guy who might’ve gotten lost in the shuffle under a previous coaching regime, to a kid that welcomed the nurturing and guidance and has since become an example to others, as one of the hardest workers on the team.

For a position looking to replace the departed Lamar Miller, Clements is doing everything in his power to earn a starting spot come fall.

  1. i think we will see a ton of work done by our backs this season. mostly james and clements with duke johnson sprinkled in. James should get the bulk of the carries with clements spelling him. its time to get back to 1000 yard backs each season. we’ve had quality backs miss 1000 seasons for way to long now. with the lack of experience in the offensive line and a question mark of who the qb will be and experience there as well i think we should see miami be 50 50 if not like 70 30 run to pass. its a building year no doubt but james should rack up a ton of yardage and so should clements. i think we’ll see a portis mcgahee gore type out look this year.

    1. It’s not very likely we’ll see a 1,000 yard rusher this year. James has never been a big yardage guy and Clements is just too much of an unknown right now; they will split carries, similar to the past few years before Miller broke out.

If Johnson is everything he’s hyped up to be we may see another feature-back system in the coming years, but not as a freshman. Until then it looks like a committee back there with no real go-to guy.

      1. … I don’t think we see a 1,000+ guy because I think we’ll see three guys splitting carries, with no go-to.

I think Eduardo Clements is your starter, I think Mike James gets his reps and I think Duke Johnson will be broken in early and depended on greatly as the season rolls on.
