U Family Mourns Loss Of Everett

Another one of those life tragedies that will never make sense. The type of occurrence that makes you shake a fist, asking “why?” as there is nothing right, just or fair about something like this.

Former University of Miami women’s soccer goalie Austen Everett passed away last week. Diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma when she was playing for the Canes, Everett passed away in a hospice facility on Tuesday. She was 25.

Within a year of her diagnosis, she was back on the practice field. She also founded the Austen Everett Foundation, which had athletes spending time with kids suffering from cancer, or other terminal illnesses. Her family plans to keep the foundation going in her honor, so please help out if and where you can, U Family. (For more on Austen’s story, check out her website.)

Miami plans a candlelight vigil in the coming days, as well as other tributes.

To the Everett family, to her fiance Matt Luzunaris, to her friends and to all those who knew and loved her, our heartfelt condolences from allCanes. This is a tragedy in the truest sense of the word and we pray you find some peace during this difficult time.
