Depth Chart For Virginia Tech Released

Al Golden and staff have released the depth chart for game five, a Saturday showdown at Virginia Tech. Kickoff is at 3:30pm ET and the game will be televised on either ABC or ESPN, depending on region.

For the Miami Hurricanes, some noticeable changes from last week’s depth chart:

– After a 37-yard, one touchdown performance on four carries against Bethune-Cookman, Eduardo Clements has been named co-second teamer with Mike James. It’s been reported that James hasn’t had a full practice since Ohio State week due to injury and Clements has obviously show coaches that he’s ready for more touches. Both will back starter Lamar Miller.

Chase Ford is listed as the first-string tight end, followed by Clive Walford and Asante Cleveland. While Miami tight ends have gotten little action this season, the true surprise is the lack of anything from the sophomore Cleveland – who has one reception for six yards (at Maryland) on the year. Cleveland had a few big grabs against Duke, North Carolina and Virginia Tech last season and after battling back from injury, more was expected early in 2011. When will he resurface?

Tommy Streeter is no longer co-second teamer with LaRon Byrd, having taken sole possession of the number two spot behind Allen Hurns. Byrd has four receptions on the season and was “blamed” for running a poor route on what was a Jacory Harris interception against Kansas State last week. Byrd’s last reception came early in the second quarter of that contest. Meanwhile, Streeter was 2-of-2 against Bethune-Cookman with two touchdowns.

Brandon Washington and Malcolm Bunche are listed as co-starters for the left tackle position, with Joel Figueroa moving to second-team left guard behind Harland Gunn and Seantrel Henderson looks like he may get his first start of the year having been named co-starter at right tackle with Jonathan Feliciano.

Adewale Ojomo and Marcus Forston have been named co-starters at left tackle with Ojomo having made the move from defensive end earlier today. Shayon Green replaces Ojomo as second team defensive end behind starter Anthony Chickillo. (Olsen Pierre is now the odd man out.)

– Former starter Ramon Buchanan is out for the year due to injury, so Jordan Futch and Kelvin Cain have been named co-starters at strong-side linebacker. Cain threw his hat in the ring with a 59-yard interception return for touchdown late in the game against Bethune-Cookman.

– The most anticipated change of the week comes at safety where the Ray-Ray Armstrong has been listed as co-starter with Vaughn Telemaque at free safety. Armstrong missed the past four games due to suspension but is back in action. Andrew Swasey has been bumped in favor of Tyrone Cornelius, who has been listed as a co-starter with A.J. Highsmith, both behind starter JoJo Nicolas.

– Special teams-wise the only change comes with Davon Johnson replacing Miller as first-team kick returner, along with Travis Benjamin. A safe bet coaches are looking to keep their workhorse healthy. Miller was banged up against Kansas State and will most definitely be a go-to against an always tough Virginia Tech defense.

  1. Glad to see the effort of Clements paying off. Also glad to see Im not the only one who feels that LaRon Bryd needs to be benched….
Kudos to the coaching staff for making the correct changes and not paying favorties!

  2. Why wouldn’t Ray Ray and Telemaque be on the same field? It doesn’t make much sense to me

    1. Same question I had. Wonder if the staff isn’t trying to up Telemaque’s game with a little competition. Personally I’d much prefer to have VT and Ray Ray holding down the safety spots and get Nicholas back to corner.

    2. cause jo jo has earned his spot at safety, i assume ray ray be getting his fuull role when he get his chance on the field and they can move jo jo back to corner, but jo jo has impressed at safety if you all see the same game i see….some may not like our defense but does anyone have the stats on our redzone defense…..flip that switch brah.

  3. This is always a special game. I love the hookies model for sucess. PLay solid D and special teams with a power running game. No national titles but always a very good team. Gotta respect Beemer Ball. I still want to see the Canes find their mean streak. Play solid tough D and make v-tech earn every yard (enough mistakes for the Canes) cause, I don’t see the Canes run ning game having similar results to the previous 4 games. J12 can win this game, but a conservative game plan from the O cordinator won’t. Open it up, we have nothing to lose.
    GO CANES!!!!

  4. Glad laron Byrd is benched. He was responsible for the interception against kstate and has done nothing all season. I’m just happy streeter and some of the younger guys are getting their turn. I can’t believe Shannon never played streeter what a shame cause with hankerson on the other side last year we really could have had a dual threat. Streeter is gonna do damage in the NFL next year. He will only get better as the season goes on. I also like that golden didn’t simply bench Jo Jo for ray ray. Gotta earn your spot back.
Anyone have any idea what Temples defensive rank was while d’onofrio was their defensive coordinator? I heard nothing but good things and am wondering if his hands are tied with the players not fitting the scheme he wants. I believe he prefers to use a 3 – 4 defense.

  5. ray ray is fixing to take telamaques spot that is what happens when you tackle like a school girl diving on evry play

  6. The key to this game and the rest of the season will be the Run D. If Coach D doesn’t get his schemes in order then it will be more of the same. Tech is a run heavy offense and always has been. Our defense has been pourous especially against the run so we have to get this fixed. Guys have to do their jobs and make plays when called upon. This game usually comes down to nasty-ness and Tech has usually been nastier and wanted it more. We have to come out with aggression and discipline from the opening whistle to the ending whistle or we will be humbled. Clemson showed the chink in Tech and we need to follow the blueprint.
