“The No. 7 ranking is a mirage. In my opinion they’re not even a Top 10 team,” Palmer said of Miami, while Pollack made it clear that Florida State is the stronger program. Davis ended the segment with a quip about Sebastian the Ibis running for cover mid-second quarter and all three laughed it up going into commercial break.
With that, welcome to the overall perception of the nation’s seventh-ranked team.
Negatively-fueled words like “overrated” are being used to describe a scrappy Miami squad instead of the most-obvious choice: “overachievers.”
The Hurricanes have benefited from the carnage of college football over the past few weeks and coupled with a handful of fourth quarter rallies, a Top 10 ranking was achieved. But isn’t that the name of the game in college football?
Play who’s on your schedule, beat your conference foes, find a way to get the job done and simply survive.
As they say during March Madness and tourney time, “survive and advance.” That’s precisely what Miami has done en route to a 7-0 start, fueled by an early September upset of then-No. 12 Florida.

Palmer can yuk it up all he wants, but we beat his Gators.
Well we haven't played like a top ten team the past couple of weeks. Needing late fourth quarter rallys to beat a 1-4 UNC squad and an improving, but much less talented Wake Forest at home. Yes this is a rivalry game with FSU but compare the way they've played with how the Canes have and you see why UM is a 21 point underdog. I am hoping that the stars align for my Canes and the boys/coaching staff come with it like never before. Still keeping hope for a win. CANE 4 LIFE
There's a saying attributed to Michael Irvin, " they knew they had the better team, but we knew we were going to win ". I like that. This game will be much closer than the betting line. So far this season, Winston has been running around, lobbing passes to wide open receivers, just like little league football. That last second hail Mary in the BC game, was pure luck. Take that out, and the Noles are very lucky to get out of there with a win. The Noles have trouble against the power running game, and mis-direction. BC exposed them. Guess what aspect of the Canes offense has come alive, recently? Go Canes!
Rece Davis is at it again...

I agree our season doesn't hinge on the results of the FSU game but there is a caveat. We must play well and keep the score as close as possible if we're to gain national respectability. It's obvious the sports media doesn't care for the 2013 edition of the Canes and its incumbent on our team to have their best game of the season. My fear is the speed of FSU that exceeds that of UM. Go Canes.
I get that sentiment to a point, but at day's end Miami is playing for itself and to grow as a program. The Hurricanes always have to tune out the media. These past few years have really proven it's "us against the world" again.
All this "overrated" chatter was bullshit. At days end, Miami overachieved to 7-0 and earned the No. 7 ranking because other teams lost. The Hurricanes weren't chest-thumping and saying they belonged or were the nation's best. This program has been humble and stayed focused in the process, have found a way to win and have done all that's asked—all with a HUGE dark cloud hovering over the program for years.
Honestly, shame on the national media for not praising the efforts of this current coaching staff and these current kids. Not ONE player on this team had anything to do with the Shapiro stuff. These kids showed grit by sticking by UM and those who signed on over the past two years with all the "death penalty" talk deserve nothing but love and respect.
Miami is on the rise. Last night's game at Florida State was supposed to be a loss. The Noles are the better team right now. Hat's off to them as they were nowhere near the program in shambles that Al Golden inherited.
7-1 in early November with a solid recruiting class on deck. Miami and Al Golden have already overshot expectations for the season.
