Newton is a highly-coveted four-star guard out of St. John Newmann in Philadelphia and he chose Miami over Syracuse, Minnesota, Oregon, UCLA and a few others.
Newton is considered an aggressive guard, is ranked eighth nationally at his position and is one of the top fifty overall players in the nation.
Newton’s commitment comes days after Larranaga and the Canes reeled in guard James Palmer out of St. John’s College High School out of Washington D.C.. Palmer is a two-star talent. Miami also has a commitment out of Orlando-based guard Adonys Henriquez, a three-star prospect, for 2014.
