‘The U’ launches digital media guide

When the 2010 Miami Hurricanes football media guide dropped last fall, rumor was that it’d be the last print version UM would release and with the 2011 season upon us, the rumor proved true.

‘The U’ released it’s 2011 digital football media guide today and kudos to the folks at Hecth, it’s impressive and lives up to the “A New Era” tag line it hypes.

Head coach. Coordinators. Staff. Team. Leaders. NFL Canes – both in the League and returning to UM to train. 2011 season. Opponents. TV info. Traditions. Five National Championships. Awards. HOF. All-Americans. Quarterback U. Running Back U. Campus. Coral Gables. Facilities. Academics. Community.

Everything in the print version is here, as well as embedded video and high-res photos, which are light years better than the old black and white shots.

The digital media guide lacks the page-turning, tangible feel that old schoolers grew to love. (Seriously, there’s some legit nostalgia that comes from flipping through old worn-out, broken-in guides with notes in the margin. Especially when going through those old ‘glory years’ media guides.)

That said, we’re living in a downloadable, Kindle-friendly and iPod-fueled world, so this was a smart move. Still wish a print version was offered, but at least this digital version is first class.

  1. The NCAA now requires schools to issue digital media guides in lieu of print materials. They’ve been transitioning the past few years in an effort to “go green” and level the playing fields for smaller schools (reduced costs). It does look great, though.
