Back-up quarterback Ryan Williams, who failed to lead the Hurricanes on a game-winning drive against North Carolina on Saturday, has gotten all the reps in practice this week, but head coach Al Golden refuses to rule Morris out. True freshman Preston Dewey has been named second-string, should Morris sit.
Morris took the practice field Wednesday morning, beating Golden’s timeline of a no-later-than-Thursday appearance if the junior would be eligible for a Saturday night start against Florida State. Still, Golden urged folks not to read too much into Morris practicing today.
“He just threw stationary,” Golden said. “It’s not a situation where he can drop yet or even plant. Ryan took all the snaps and Preston took some as well. We’re moving forward with Ryan and we’ll see if Stephen, in the last 72 hours, can do something.”
Golden also let it be knows that Morris’ ankle is still swollen.
With game day three days out, time will tell if this was a ploy to confuse Florida State coaches, or if Morris has a legitimate chance to see the field Saturday night.
