Morris Is A Game-Time Decision For FSU

stephen morris miami hurricanes quarterbackGame week for Florida State is underway, but the status of Miami quarterback Stephen Morris, who suffered a sprained ankle last weekend, remains a huge unknown.

Back-up quarterback Ryan Williams, who failed to lead the Hurricanes on a game-winning drive against North Carolina on Saturday, has gotten all the reps in practice this week, but head coach Al Golden refuses to rule Morris out. True freshman Preston Dewey has been named second-string, should Morris sit.

Morris took the practice field Wednesday morning, beating Golden’s timeline of a no-later-than-Thursday appearance if the junior would be eligible for a Saturday night start against Florida State. Still, Golden urged folks not to read too much into Morris practicing today.

“He just threw stationary,” Golden said. “It’s not a situation where he can drop yet or even plant. Ryan took all the snaps and Preston took some as well. We’re moving forward with Ryan and we’ll see if Stephen, in the last 72 hours, can do something.”

Golden also let it be knows that Morris’ ankle is still swollen.

With game day three days out, time will tell if this was a ploy to confuse Florida State coaches, or if Morris has a legitimate chance to see the field Saturday night.

  1. My bad for being the NEGATIVE harbinger of bad news. But the SAGACIOUS Sin City touters see F.S.U. as a – 20 1/2 point road chalk. Bloody ouch!!!!!!!!
And believe it or not, that Good Ol’ Boi Jimbo WILL bloody well have his Red Seminole squad put a Redneck BYTCH SLAPPING on Miami!!!
By the way, I don’t even believe the Hurricanes were a ” – 20 1/2 point ” HOME underdog under Coach Shannon. LET ALONE A – 20 1/2 point road ” dog ” under the HATED Shannon. Eh. What say.
    Bon jour

  2. Goldie AIN’T employing no ploy surrounding the bUm ankle of Stevie Morris. So U’all Cane fandom can Chit-can that notion of the Hurricane degree. Eh. What say.
Heck, WHY risk further injury to Morris and JEOPARDIZE-sp. the remaining season for Miami. Especially with that PUTRID, LAME AZZ defensive scheming of U-KNOW-WHO. dUh
Because, wouldn’t it be in the best interest of Hurricane football, to get Stevie Morris HEALED properly, and move on to POSSIBLE, winnable games against the likes of Beamer Ball and Va. and SoFla and finally, a DANGEROUS road encounter against a SURPRISING Duke team.
    Bon soir

  3. I don’t think you can put that “failure” all on Williams. It is a receiver’s responsibility to know where that 1st down marker is…the receiver stopped way short of it and way too soon, staring down his QB, and letting NC’s D know exactly where they could stop us. Williams did have a successful drive earlier this year, and accounted for the only TD pass in the game. He has seen such limited action…how can you expect more from him? I think the potential is definitely there. It sure was good to see #11 in action again.

    1. Wasn’t assessing any blame. Was simply stating that the Miami offense didn’t get it done. The sack on second down put Miami in a really hairy third and fourth down situation, as well. Is what it is. Made some nice passes and a capable back up, but really hope #17 is ready to go on Saturday as his experience is necessary against Florida State.

  4. Vegas does not make the daily odd, only the starting odds. They are changed as the money comes in to equalize the betting.

FSU is way ahead because the bettors are putting money on FSU.

At these odds, UM is a pretty good play !!!

  5. I think my issue has been denying that were are still rebuilding yet again. All Canes fans want to be undefeated every year, and our play this year has shown that we are still not ready to compete on a week in and week out basis for even the ACC. We haven’t even won the Coastal yet. We just don’t have the depth and consistenecy for whatever reason. I don’t understand why we still don’t have depth at many positions at the University of Miami. We were at this same point 5 years ago when Shannon had his own 30 plus recruiting class. Now here we are again coming off another 30 plus class with Golden – starting over almost. Let me say this – I’m am not down on Miami at all – I am just frustrated that we aren’t where we need to or should be. I have to remind myself that this was the same team which was 6-6 last year. What I do want though, is to see tangible signs of progress. What once was a 4-1 team now stands at 4-3 with our next two opponents being our toughest rivals. Neither FSU nor VTech are world beaters by any means, but we haven’t shown the ability to compete in the bigger games yet.

What do we need to do? Recruit, recruit, recruit, develop the guys already on campus and get another year in the same system. The 2013 class will be small so each prospect is vital. I hope our staff has done their homework on guys who will fit the scheme and take us to the next level. We can’t afford a bunch of misses on guys anymore. If we’re standing still, then we’re getting left behind. I believe Golden can get the job done, but time will tell. His leadership will be vital in the coming months and years to see his agenda through (along with a visionary as an AD). I know I’m all over the place with this post, but I want Miami to be back and I know it will take more time. A win over FSU and VTech will be nice, but we need to see the big picture and not just what’s right in front of us as fans. The next 1-2 years are very important. Will we take the step forward and be recognized, or start from square one again?
