Stay classy, Urban Myth…

Yeah yeah, I know Miami fans really don’t have a leg to stand on right now regarding busting on Florida. The Canes lost seven games this year and didn’t make a bowl, while the Gators were a three-loss team entering bowl season as defending champs.

Toss in the media slurpfest of Heisman winner Tim Tebow and right now everyone outside of Gainesville is sick of all things UiF, so it’s almost my duty to point out any anti-Florida nonsense I come across.

Everyone’s least favorite coach Urban Meyer had some choice words after Michigan upset Florida in the Citrus Bowl on New Years Day. Steve Babik of the Gator Network attempted to interview The Myth about this being the last game for the 2007 senior class, their impact on the program and how hard it is to say ‘goodbye’. The Myth responded with the following:

“Well, for those guys who just put in their time and didn’t make any real contributions, it’s time for you to go. It won’t be hard to say goodbye to some of those guys who just went through the motions. Now for those kids who actually bought into the program, and who made some sacrifices and contributions – you know, like Bubba Caldwell….he’s a graduate of UF and had a great career – you’ll really miss those guys. But just because you’re a senior doesn’t mean you have any value.”

Hey Urban, tell us how you really feel! Seriously, I can almost ‘get’ where The Myth is coming from regarding frustration with kids who were recruited, on scholarship four years for football and failed to produce on the field. That has to be a big time frustration of most coaches in the game.

Now all that said, those comments should be filed under ‘innermost thoughts’. Shooting off at the mouth and speaking the unspeakable a month before Signing Day? File that one under ‘moronic’.

UiF recruits, there’s some proof regarding how your future head coach values you if you aren’t a superstar Gator. Screw your education, you have no ‘value’ unless you dominate on the field. Perform consistently or you’re deemed worthless.

Sounds like a hell of a way to spend the next four years.

Stay classy, Urbie.

  1. At one point I actually half liked Urban, when he was at Bowling Green. By the time he got to Utah (after one year) he was deservedly a young and upcoming hotshot with what he did at those two programs. But since he’s gotten to Florida, he has become the most annoying coach outside of South bend’s, Touchdown Charlie. These guys think they are God’s gift to us all or something. Myth has at least gotten a ring a la Coker with someone else’s players but for him to speak of any player like they are garbage is just uncalled for. These are 18-22 year olds, not pros. If they took up space and did not get the job done, then guess what Jerk? That means YOU did not get the job done, and find the right buttons to push. You can play tough guy and be a hard ass in front of the camera for the fans’ sake, but you did not get the job done this year. What a great guy to feel the heat and throw some seniors under the bus. Stay classy is right. A lot of luster has quickly come off the glass that surrounds Urban Myth. Yes he is a good coach, but have some tact and know when to shut the hell up.

  2. As much as I hate Bobby Bowden and FSU, Bowden has a class and integrity that someone like never have. Bowden would never say that about his kids- never in a million years.

No wonder I always pull for FSU against the turds.

My friend, you are 0 for 2 in the comments section today, brother.

Class and integrity no longer can be used to describe the delusional Bobby Bowden. No way. He lost me in 2005 when Ernie Sims smacked up his girlfriend, AJ Nicholson got a DUI and Bowden let both start against Miami in the opener.

Bowden had the ‘boys will be boys’ attitude about things and got away with saying he’d never sit big time starters in a big time game. The suspension would come down the road in a lesser content.

Then there was this year’s incident when Geno Hayes gets Tazed and Joe Surratt hits a cop. Hayes sits the first series and then is in the mix against Alabama. Surratt was injured so he was out.

Bowden lost control of his program years ago and is now sticking around solely to stick it to Joe Paterno. It’s all ego driven and he’s even said that if he has to forefit some games because of the cheating scandal, he’ll start counting some ancient games at the beginning of his career towards his win total.

Old man has a big ego, a win at all costs mentality and he’s doing his scumbag players (and their parents) a disservice by not disciplining these kids at a formidable age and time in their lives.

I used to think like you did about Bowden and still root for them over Florida – but I’ve lost all respect I used to have for that two-faced old ‘neck.

  4. I still don’t know how Bowden has not been held to the fire for 36 players staying home for various reasons… cheating, academics, injury. Anyone else would pretty much be forced to resign. The cheating happened way back in May and this just came out in December? These guys should have been suspended DURING THIS SEASON. If it comes down to doing the right thing or winning a game, Bowden always has chosen the latter. The only time he makes someone sit is when possible criminal charges are set and that is because it is not his choice, but the President’s and AD’s. This program definately has that lack of institutional control vibe, but the NCAA doesn’t hand those out anymore. He’s barely holding on to the reigns of an overhyped program which loses 4-5 games every year. He built the program from scratch and he’s going to ride it into the ground. He can still recruit with his grandpa personality, but that’s pretty much it.

  5. Myth is simply a poor speaker with no personality or class. If the seniors were so awful he should have told them to go somewhere else his first year on the job. Meyer will be just like Coker, being that he will do well his first few years on the job and go down hill. He’ll get some talent simply because they are “defending national champs”, but he’ll do nothing with the talent he gets.

  6. Canes, you’re whistling past the graveyard. Because you’re coming to The Swamp to get the beatdown of your freakin’ lives!

  7. Canes, you’re whistling past the graveyard. Because you’re coming to The Swamp to get the beatdown of your freakin’ lives!

Come on now, ‘Turd. Beatdown of our lives? Please. You’re basically predicting bigger than 66-13 from ‘Cuse in 1998 or 51-13 from OU this year? Put your $$$ where your mouth is. I got $20 that says it’s nowhere near that bad.

Miami is down. Get your licks in. Would’ve been the same had you bitches played us 1988-1993 and vice versa, you’d have smoked us in the mid to late 90s when you were on top. It’s all cyclical and we’re on the climb right now.

Either way, no speculation needed regarding six straight and our five titles to your measly two.

    Not since ’85, bitches.
