Seven Pro Bowl-Bound Hurricanes…

Congrats to Andre Johnson, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Jon Beason, Jeff Feagles and Reggie Wayne as all seven are headed to the 2009 Pro Bowl.

Feagles is obviously the oldest Cane on this roster and Lewis the only rep from the 90s.

Johnson, Portis, Wayne and Reed are your most recent National Championship-era Miami alum while Beason is the only post-2001 Hurricane to grace the Pro Bowl roster.

While I hate to keep beating this “lack of talent” drum, it’s no mystery that four of this year’s seven Pro Bowl-bound Canes are from Miami’s most dominant era of ball. As the program declined in recent years, so has the Canes presence in this post-season bowl game.

Kudos to NFL U for a whopping seven Canes in next year’s Pro Bowl. That said, back to recruiting so this trend can continue in years to come.

  • I know when Johnson was drafted. My point was that he went in the 'championship era'. Beason left after the 2006 season and no Canes from the 'in repair era' (2005-2007) are making any reaon noise in the league, besides Beason.

  • Recruiting in your own backyard is bound to take a hit when USF wipes the floor with your has-been program next November in Tampa.

  • allCanes,

Do you know if we have the most representatives of any school in the Pro Bowl?

I agree, it's time to stockpile players like the U.S. stockpiled nukes during the cold war. It began last year, and hopefully will continue strong with another #1 recruiting class.

And then when the Gators and Noles come calling, Ka-Boom!!!!

  • ZarOkoN - I'm not talking about first rounders, I'm talking about Pro Bowlers. Kelly Jennings is another recent first rounder. So is Kenny Phillips.

My point (which many seem to be missing) is that Miami was obviously much more talent-heavy the earlier part of this decade and those are the majority of the kids who made the 2009 Pro Bowl.

    19 first rounders between 2001 and 2004.

6 first rounders between 2005 and 2008... with no one expected to be drafted in 2009 -- not just in the first round, but in the entire two-day draft.

  • Found the answer to my question on MiamiHerald.com...

"The seven [Canes] selected to represent their current NFL teams are the most of any school in the nation."

  • Ok I know this is off subject a bit. I heard this on the radio that Marve went home back in Tampa.I caught the last of it and didnt know why he went back home? As for all-pros it still breaks my heart to not see Sean Taylor there. The U is back
