Payne No Longer A Hurricane

Down goes another. The Miami Hurricanes cut another one loose when head coach Al Golden dismissed sophomore-to-be Keion Payne. The defensive back got the boot for a “violation of team rules”, according to UM associate athletic director of communications and marketing, Chris Freet.

Payne graduated from Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High and played in only two games as a Hurricane – against Bethune-Cookman and Duke last season. He had no statistics. He was also one of three players suspended for the first weekend of spring practice, for violation team rules. The others – offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson and linebacker Kelvin Cain – are back in action.

No word if Payne broke another rule or if this was a hangover from the initial suspension. Regardless, he’s expected to transfer and you can bet that Coach Golden and staff will replace his scholarship with another kid who is all-in and ready to change the culture at The U.

All the best to Keion in his future endeavors.
