Miami Hurricanes Week One Depth Chart

Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden has released the depth chart for UM’s Friday home showdown against crosstown rival Florida Atlantic. That said, Golden has made it clear that the depth chart isn’t a clear indicator of who will start in game one. It’s simply a guideline and where guys measure up at the beginning of the week. A lot of time between now and kickoff and much can change.

Golden was live on the Joe Rose Show this Monday morning and made it clear that all guys will see action and that changes to the depth chart are day-to-day in some positions and in other cases, week-to-week.

Golden used wide receiver Rashawn Scott as an example of a guy who has stepped up the past few practices, but alluded to the fact that hasn’t always been the case. Golden went on to state that if Scott gave every day what he gave the past two, that it’d change everything for him. Consistent effort is the goal to playing time in the Golden era.

Regarding the depth chart itself, not many changes from the pre-season chart last week. A couple of here-there switches on the offense line and in the secondary. A few guys listed either-or that have been solidified, for now.

It should be noted that safety Deon Bush is listed at third-string safety due to limited contact as he recovers from surgery.

Lastly, Wisconsin transfer David Gilbert and Virginia transfer Justin Renfrow are both second-stringers after spending little time on campus. Renfrow is behind defensive end Curtis Porter while Gilbert is backing Shayon Green.

A lack of defensive line depth was a huge issue for Miami last season and the fact that two transfer could just roll in and shore up second string duty (for now), shows how thin things have been on that side of the ball.
