Miami Hurricanes: Bryan Pata, R.I.P.

Miami defensive tackle Bryan Pata was shot and killed on Tuesday November 7th. He was 22 years old. He had just left practice. He was three games away from ending his career at The U and embarking on one in the NFL; the ultimate dream for any college baller.

We are still numb to this news here. This doesn’t make sense. It’s not fair. I doesn’t even seem real.

Try to get it off your mind and you’ll only dwell on it more. Try to wrap your arms around it and prepare to come up empty. Yet another cruel blow delivered by the world we live in and in this case, there are no answers.

allCanesBlog.com will share our thoughts on Wednesday once we’ve had time to let this sink in.

Many fans and customers have written in regards to allCanes doing some sort of tribute to #95. We will discuss that in the coming days. We’ve commemorated and paid tribute to past fallen Canes and I can’t see any reason why we wouldn’t do the same for Bryan Pata.

More to come tomorrow. In the interim, please say a prayer for the family and friends of Bryan – as well as his University of Miami family. As if these kids haven’t been through enough during this nightmarish season. Losing games means little when you’ve just lost a brother.

Rest in peace, Bryan Pata.

  4. At a time in UM history when all of us have been so consumed with anger towards the current staff and the state of the program, this then is our wake up call that there are more important things in life than winning football games.

Brian will be forever missed by those who love him and hold him close to their hearts. For them I pray that you find some comfort in the coming days. For Brian I pray that you rest in peace in the House of the Lord.

  15. I’ve been a Cane fan for 20 yrs now. I was 15 when I watched my first game on T.V. I am not an alumni, never been to Miami, and only seen them play live once in the Peach Bowl last year. Which is why today as i turned on ESPN and saw that Bryan Pata had been shot and killed I felt a overwhelming sense of sorrow and sadness as if a close family member had passed. I could not understand why I felt so emotional about this young man I had only watched play. My wife came in the room and asked what was wrong, i told her one of my boys on the canes had been killed. I told her i did not know why I was so upset and shedding tears. She said to me,” because you love the Canes, I cared about the program, and i was a real fan.And she was right. Now more than ever our players, students and faculty need us the fans. I say OURS because i feel I am a member of the Miami family. Please support them through this hard time by being true and faithful. We all lost a friend not just a great player. God bless you players and students in your time of grief. Pray for Bryan’s mother and all his family.
    #95 Rest In Peace

  18. Just as I was sitting down Tuesday night to rip UM for another pathetic loss to VT Saturday a breaking news story interupted the NIU/ Toledo “game”.Miami Defensive lineman Bryan Pata shot and killed!Killed??Suddenly football isn’t so important.Suddenly a 5-4 start isn’t so bad.Suddenly a scrub bowl game isn’t so devastating.Suddenly things come back into perspective. This is human life we are talking about not a game on a Saturday morning. This is a mother who will never see her son again not a fan whining about another loss. This is as real as it gets!!As I come to terms with the magnitude of this tragedy I can’t help but be ashamed of myself and many other Hurricane “fans”.I’ll admit it I was one of the many people in the OB Saturday night trashing the players and coaches from the sideline.I have ripped the team repeatedly for their poor performance on the field but now all of that seems so insignificant. We need to realize that these are 18,19 and 20 year old kids and many of them have never been equiped with the tools they need to cope with such a terrible loss.I encourage every true Hurricane fan to get behind this team.If you are able to travel to Maryland or Charlottsville VA get there and even if you can’t be there show your support wherever you might be.Wear a #95 jersey or wrist band or something to honor our fallen family member.Pack the seats of the OB on Thanksgiving night.Let these kids know we have their back!!Finally whether we win out or lose all three lets honor Bryan Pata by sticking by our team….GO CANES!!!

P.S.:Bryan we’ll miss you and you’ll always be in the hearts of all Canes players and fans .RIP
