Miami Signs Belgium-Bred Point Guard

In the wake of Shane Larkin departing for the NBA, Miami tapped a hometown star who got away – Angel Rodriguez, who signed with UM this week after playing at Kansas State for two seasons – and went overseas for this most recent addition; Belgium, to be exact.

Jim Larranaga and the Hurricanes have signed Emmanuel Lecomte, a 5-foot-10, 17-year old prospect out of Belgium. Lecomte was a member of the U18 team last summer, where he regularly played with older athletes. Not rated by traditional recruiting services, Eurobasket has him a 2.5-star prospect.

Miami assistant coach Michael Huger is responsible for finding Lecomte, having Belgian connections after playing professional ball there earlier in his career. Huger talked with many former connection, who have all stated that Lecomte is the real deal – both as a shooter, ball-handler and a defender. He is expected on campus in July and will turn 18 in August.

Welcome to The U … and the USA, EmmanUel. Get to work as the position is wide open and the sky’s the limit!
