Latwan Anderson signs with Miami…

Is it too late to ask for a recount regarding 2010 signing day class rankings?

The Miami Hurricanes got a late gift this Wednesday morning when Latwan Anderson, one of the nation’s top prospects finally made it official and signed with The U.

The 15th-ranked overall prospect and Ohio product lists Ohio State as his favorite program, but it came down to Miami and West Virginia this morning. Anderson originally committed to the Mountaineers but never signed a letter of intent.

A big reason Anderson went with the Canes was a desire to run track. He placed second in Ohio last year in the 200-meter dash and will take a track scholarship, but will also play football for UM. He will technically ‘walk on’ to the Miami football team, but could still make an immediate impact as a true freshman.

Miami signed 29 new players last month, but will gladly make room for Anderson on the defensive side of the ball. What was originally thought to be a top fifteen class just got a shot in the arm with the addition of Anderson and could still receive another in the coming weeks.

Top-ranked offensive line prospect Seantrel Henderson verballed to Southern Cal but also hasn’t signed his letter of intent. Henderson’s final visit before signing day was a trek to Coral Gables over Pro Bowl weekend. Henderson and his family loved UM but went with USC, his long-time front runner.

With sanctions looming in Los Angeles, there’s a legit chance Henderson chooses The U when all is said and done. Maybe even more so now with the addition of fellow Midwestern stand out Anderson now on board.

Welcome to The U, Latwan.

  1. Welcome to the U Latwan! (Maybe this will shut some of the star lovers up for a while)

  2. welcome Latwan!!! Shout out to Coach Shannon and the coaching staff. The key to getting Latwan was to give him the ability to play his freshman year. The reason he choose WVU initially is due to there 3-3-5 stack defense which would have given him playing time right from the start.

  3. A great addition to the team. We're still lacking depth in the secondary and this will really help out.

Can the haters take get off Randys back now? He's officially brought in at least one 5-Star recruit in every class. Hopefully this can make you happy.

  4. This is a huge boost for us, you can't praise coach Shannon enough for his recruiting efforts. He's done an outstanding job and even if we can't land Seantrel, I like this class. Mr. Anderson, happy to have you as a Cane.

  5. Go Canes!!
I dont know if you guys realize just how BIG this signing is…
I am an Ohio State Alumn, but a 25 year CANES fan(9-11-10 is the revenge game..i will be there).

Latwan's high school(Glenville) has produced Troy Smith and Tedd Ginn, JR just to name a few. Ohio State has had a pipeline to Glenville. Now, hopefully we can start to get more of the Glenville kids because they have some major football STUDS signing with Ohio State yearly.

I seen Latwan's playoff game against St.Ignatius(Ohio powerhouse team)…and he OWNED them WITH the SWAGGER to back it. I always said he belongs at Miami. Thanksw Latwan for not caving to the pressure of signing with Ohio State(or WVU for that matter).

    Go Canes!!

  6. Shannon absolutely deserves a contract extention with more money involved. Some so-called "fans" are on his back for not winning a championship yet but look at what this man has done to turn around the football program. He inherited a roster 3 years ago that seriously lacked playmakers and landed stellar recruiting classes thus littering the roster with talent and depth. He directed miami to it's 1st 9 win season since 2005 and improved the team every year since taking over. He's risen miami's graduation rate among student atheletes and only 2 players have been arrested during his watch. Miami reached the top 10 last year after starting unranked following a 7-6 showing in 08. He assembled a talented coaching staff, Are you serious? Man, pay this man his money man…he's one of the lowest paid coach in the conference for christ sake…
