Braxton Berrios Picks Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes added another big name to an already loaded class for 2014. UM received a verbal commitment from 4-star wide receiver Braxton Berrios out of Leesville Road High in Raleigh, North Carolina. Berrios is a 5-foot-9, 180-pound receiver that has drawn comparison to NFL star Wes Welker.

Berrios has been clocked at 4.48 in the forty-yard dash and has a 40.9 vertical leap. When offered by Miami in July, the wideout tweeted: “The Miami Hurricanes just offered me! My childhood team, and even though it’s not a done deal dreams do come true. #blessed #THEU

Berrios announced at his high school Saturday afternoon. The high school senior too the stage surrounded by logos from multiple universities, including Oregon, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina. In the end, it was all about “The U”—which Berrios proclaimed as a Hurricanes logo popped up on the stage behind him.

“It just felt like family. I’ve been a longtime Canes fan, and it really wasn’t as simple as that, it really wasn’t,” Berrios said, sporting an Old English “M” Hurricanes cap. “Getting that offer was great, it was a dream come true, but I had to step back and really look, weigh all my options, and see what fit me the best.”

Berrios insists that his decision is final and that he’ll be an early enrollee at Miami, on campus in January.
