The first round streak is long gone, but when it comes to the NFL Draft itself, the Miami Hurricanes roll on with Brandon McGee keeping things alive.
The 5-foot-11, 193-pound cornerback was chosen sixteenth in the fifth round, and 149th overall, by the St. Louis Rams and it represents the thirty-eighth straight year UM has had at least one player taken in the Draft.
McGee ran a 4.54 forty-yard dash at the NFL combine, with scouts saying that he has “fluid hips help him transition well, flips open quickly to keep up down the sideline. Good recovery speed and is effective in trail over the middle.” CBS Sports went on to say that he has “smooth hips to easily turn his frame and adjust on a dime. Patience, controlled footwork, playing with confidence. Nice job locating, highpointing and getting his hands on the ball in coverage.”
McGee, like former teammate Mike James, also hoping to be drafted, lost his mother and always had the goal of reaching the NFL to make her proud. Congratulations to McGee for achieving his dream and best of luck in St. Louis, Brandon.
