CORAL GABLES, FL – allCanes, the #1 Canes shop since 1959 and the creator of “The U Invented Swagger” t-shirt, and Phunware, a leader in enterprise branded mobile application infrastructure, proudly announce the launch of the allCanes App for iPhone and iPod Touch on the App Store for download globally.

Conceived and developed for Canes fans by Canes fans, the allCanes App is the ultimate mobile experience for the great fans of the storied University of Miami Hurricanes. Unofficial, raw and layered with attitude, you simply can’t call yourself a fan if this App isn’t on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

“We know U well and we’ve built what you’ve been waiting for – for far too long,” said Harry Rothwell, General Manager of allCanes. “Whether U have a ‘G8R-H8R’ license plate, a ‘Wide Right’ DVR video loop or ‘Catholics vs. Convicts’ pajamas, U simply can’t live without this App! We’ve been with U through thick and thin for more than 50 years, giving each of U what you’re looking for to show off your colors, passion and love for the Canes – first at retail, then online and now on mobile.”

The allCanes App has absolutely everything a Canes fan would want, including:

• > $125 of retail discounts on merchandise and gear.

• A complete arsenal of news, social media and play-by-play, including Swagger Chat (to talk smack of course), the allCanes Blog, Facebook (allCanes, UM, Randy Shannon, Sebastian & ESPN’s “The U” Documentary), Twitter (allCanes, UM, Canes Sports & Canes Radio – WQAM.com / 560-AM, plus Re-Tweet) and Sharing (Facebook, Twitter & Email).

• A comprehensive media gallery of more than 2 decades of Canes dominance, including photos of former and existing players of soon-to-be and existing NFL superstars and Hall of Famers from long time, official UM photographer J.C. Ridley (CaneShooter.com) – enough said.

• Shout Outs from Sebastian and Maniac!

• A Canes Sports Scoreboard for Men’s football, basketball and baseball and Lady Canes basketball, volleyball and soccer, including schedules, scores and rosters.

• A Hurricane Torture Chamber where U can take a quick photo of that moron next to U at a bar or a tailgate party near the Horseshoe and then dress them up in a uniform of your choice to Shake, Punch, Throw and Shoot them until your heart’s content – literally shaking or smacking their head off, bouncing them off a goal post or drilling them with a football – wherever you’d like. Don’t forget to snap a quick photo of them as U beat them silly and send them an email as a reminder that the “Run-It-Up Jimmy” era is far from over!

• A Memory Game to challenge your mind and engage Canes imagery, including custom options to capture the Canes experience your way with your own images and pictures.

• A Find a Cane tool that your group can use to find each other at Greek Week, Homecoming, Disney World©, Sun Life© Stadium, a tailgate party, a concert, the Keys or Bourbon Street – heck, we’ve all been there and barring stapling your name and return address on your forehead, this is the next best thing to make sure that U go home with everyone U came with – especially in enemy territory.

• A full suite of merchandise and gear, including allCanes original designs like “The U Invented Swagger” t-shirt, so that U can get whatever U want whenever U want it, right from your App. Includes filters for What’s New, Nike© Gear, Jerseys, Gift Cards, Hats & Headwear, T-Shirts, Sale Items and All Categories, just for U!

• Store info, including the Spirit Club and an FAQ for easy reference of all things allCanes. Don’t forget to Ask Harry whenever U have feedback, questions or simply want to don your colors for max effect.

“While it’s always ‘All About the U’, this App is clearly all about the ‘Us’ as well,” commented Alan S. Knitowski, Chairman & CEO of Phunware, Inc., 1991 UM Alum and Member of the UM President’s Council. “While this App is neither officially sanctioned nor endorsed by UM itself, we wholeheartedly thank the entire administration for their generous support and cooperation in all that they do on a daily basis for the bleeding orange and green of Hurricane Nation.”

The allCanes App is currently available for purchase for $4.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod Touch at www.itunes.com/appstore, or via the allCanes website at www.allcanes.com/iphone-app.

  1. I'd pay $5 for $125 in AllCanes coupons alone, let alone everything the app will contain. I saw a preview of the app at AllCanes a few weeks ago and there's something like 40 or so highlight videos on there and a slew of photos. It's bad ass. Don't be so C-H-E-A-P. Five bucks is nothing, you slouch!

Have you seen that Canes Crunch app that's out there? They went $1.99 for that piece of shite. Talk about a rip off.

  2. Classic. The first numbskull to write in is already b!@#hing about the price. How typical.

How can you complain about cost until you've bought something and tried it out? You haven't even determined if something is worth it. You just looked at the price tag and balked. You sir, are a fool.

First off, have you see the lack of selection regarding UM apps out there? There's nothing. The Herald put out some free garbage app and that CaneCrunch app above is absolutely lame. This looks to be the first UM app that looks like it can hold it's own. I'm going to download first thing tomorrow morn when I'm back at work.

Great job All Canes. Even without really seeing this thing yet, I'm sure it's going to be awesome. See you guys at the launch party tomorrow night.

  3. congratulations on the release of the app. I just downloaded it. It's very nicely done. I really enjoy the video's section? Question, will this section be regularly updated with newly added videos (old & new)?

The Find a Cane feature will be very cool when visiting columbus this year as well as when the canes come here to the burgh.

    Is it football season yet?

  4. Pittsburgh — More vids will be added in time. Aiming to have new highlights up the Monday morning after a game, but it's a fine line regarding what can be posted on YouTube versus what can be inserted into an app and sold.

We worked with the folks who do the UM highlight DVDs regarding this footage – which contains no ESPN, ABC, etc. footage – it's all their stuff.

The Find-A-Cane feature is great on game day or anytime you need a GPS feature for a group of people. Use at the game or use when out tearing up the town on a Saturday night when looking for your buds.

Check out some of the games. The "Torture Chamber" is a hoot.

Thanks for purchasing… and for not complaining about the price. (Seriously, some folks have NO IDEA what it costs to build out an app. We provided a ton of stuff that makes it worth what you're paying. I've paid MUCH more for worse apps.)

  5. DOWNLOADED! OFFICIALLY MY NEW FAVE APP. GREAT JOB ALLCANES. YOU GUYS ALWAYS COME THRU!!!

    LOVE. IT.

  6. Sir Brian, yes, in time.

Right now we started with the iPhone as Apple has cornered the download market with about 80% of all downloads coming for the iPhone. The Droid gets about 15% of downloads and the Blackberry and 'other' makes up the final 5%.

(Apple's numbers expected to get even better with the release of the iPhone4, though the Droid is definitely selling and making a big dent in the market.)

If the iPhone app does what we think it can do, we'll get on board with the Droid app a.s.a.p.

    Stay tuned, brother.

  7. I downloaded the App yesterday (first review too) and absolutely love it! I'm really kicking myself for buying The Miami Herald's app when it was first released…. This is by far the best UM themed App available today. Can I make a suggestion? I really enjoy rusty98um11's YouTube highlight videos. Is there any plans to get instant access to his videos through the App?

  8. Terrific app from the team at phun. Definitely worth the five bucks because it brings the Swagger, it brings the Life, it brings all that is The U to your fingertips.

I also picked up the new Tradition vs Swagger shirt (for the upcoming Notre Dame / Miami game in 2012) at this spot:

    Go Canes!

  9. My friend has the iPhone app and it is awesome. I have the Droid Incredible and am chomping at the bit for this app. Is there any update on this? Please, somebody tell me that this will be out for the start of the season…I live in Gator country and can't get anything about the Canes, unless I go online!

  10. Justin, it will most likely happen, but it will be a while.

We had to shell out a lot of money to build this app for the iPhone and one month later we've just dented the process of recouping our expenses.

Over 3M new iPhone 4s have been sold, so that 80% Apple marketshare (regarding downloads) has probably inched closer to 85%. (iPad downloads, too).

It really is becoming a two-horse race with the iPhone and Droid, but until we sell more downloads through iTunes, we really can't invest in Droid.

You can always download to an iPod touch if you have one … We'll definitely keep everyone in the loop.

Thanks for the compliments. Glad to hear that your buddy bought and it and that you dig it. – C

  11. Another Droid user here, looking forward to the day I can get my hands on this app.

Hope the economics work out for you. It sounds like a great deal!

  12. It's Justin again, and I have waited until a new season without saying anything, but I am in dire need of this app. Is there any update on the release, if any, for the Droid? I can get at least 11 people to download it day 1. I know that isn't a lot in the bigger scheme of things, but we are desperate!

  13. Justin – Truly appreciate your passion for getting this app, but we're a long way from ever seeing a Droid app.

We are still promoting the iPhone app, which is a long way from paying itself off — and Apple downloads are still beating Droid downloads 4-to-1 across the board.

Creating a Droid app would literally mean going back to the drawing board and building the app from the ground up for the new platform. It is a large investment isn't going to happen for a while.

As we always mention, you can get the app on an iPad or iPod Touch so even if you're a Droid guy, hopefully you own one of those other Apple devices.

Thanks for checking back with us. Sorry we don't have better news.
