With 225,000+ apps available (as of June 2010) and no rhyme or reason regarding Apple’s random selection process, this truly is an incredible feat. For those of you yet to download the app, click here to do so.
Just over a month after launching, we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve created and we thank all of you for not only purchasing the app, but for the feedback we’ve received – not only via email, but in the iTunes store. The allCanes iPhone app has almost fifty reviews and a strong, five-star rating – thanks to U.
We’ve also received some emails asking about Phunware, the company that teamed up to build the app with us. With so many people out there in the iPhone app marketplace, why Phunware? Pretty simple answer; their founder Alan Knitowski bleeds orange and green like few out there.
Alan attended UM on a four-year Army ROTC scholarship and graduated in ’91 with both a BSIE degree and a commission to the United States Army Aviation Branch as a 2LT. He was a member of the Iron Arrow, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and part of a number of student organizations, professional organizations and honor societies – including the President’s 100, the Intrafraternity Council, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, the Miami Hurricane Newspaper and IBIS Yearbook.
These days, outside of a slew of successful business ventures, he’s also a member of the University of Miami President’s Council and works closely with the Alumni Association. Currently residing in Texas, he’ll be part of this weekend’s Austin UM Summer Send off – opening his home to new and existing Canes from Central Texas. When living in Southern California, he hosted the UM Summer Send Off in Orange County, as well.
allCanes has been a huge part of the U Family since 1959 and for us, a huge part of keeping this thing going strong is teaming up with fellow Canes and like-minded folk. When our paths re-crossed with Alan (via Facebook – gotta love technology!) and we found out what he’d created with Phunware, our interest was beyond piqued.
Phunware has created a slew of apps – from the Discovery Channel “Mythbusters” app to the “Disney World Wait Times, Dining Maps & Undercover Tourist” app, which is a gem for all Mouse House loving Floridians.
In all the time Alan and the Phunware folk have spent building out these apps, they’ve never seen such a reaction from Apple regarding the placement allCanes has recently seen.
“We are extremely excited to see the continued recognition of the allCanes iPhone and iPod Touch app by Apple on the iTunes App Store. We are thrilled to have this coverage for the start of the school year and football season and expect that 2010 is going to look an awful lot like 2001 here at the U.”
Spoken like a true Cane (who actually named his son Kane. Seriously.)
