Golden Monday Press Conference Video(s)

CanesAllAccess posted video of this morning’s press conference with head coach Al Golden and again it was candid, forthright and both lays out a game plan for the future, while explaining in detail the “why” behind what went wrong in 2011, Golden’s inaugural season.

Coach Golden addressed his contract, staying at UM long term, the brand that is ‘The U’, the recruiting game, as well as the past, present and future of Miami football. Golden stated that he feels the worst is behind UM regarding the NCAA investigation and called this next recruiting class ‘critical’ in the future of the program.

This is definitely a must-watch piece for all true Canes fans. It was another long season and again, a second straight six-loss season wore everyone done.

It’s been a rough half decade for “The U” and while many want – and even expect – an instant fix (re: “Look at what Brady Hoke did year one at Michigan!”, as if the situations are identical), that’s not how things work. Nor is it on Golden to fix five years worth of wrong over a four-month season.

For all the message board folk or armchair quarterback who feel that 6-6 was “unacceptable” and foolishly expected more, due to recruiting classes and the simple fact that this is UM, this presser does a good job showing the science behind the rebuild and bring you more into “the process” that Coach Golden oft talks about.

Best line of the day? Had to be, “6-6 not good enough for you? Trust me, I’m here eighteen hours a day, it ain’t good enough for me. We’ll get it fixed,” said Golden.

It proved to be a very candid piece and Golden had a lot of good to say. Check it out below, broken up into two parts. Watch it. Watch it again. Share with the rest of the #UFamily.

  • I love that Golden is thinking bigger and stronger players. The days of just speed are over. Everyone has speed nowadays and the top teams, a la Bama and LSU have speed AND size. Being undersized has not worked in the ACC like it did in the Big East, yet we have never changed our recruiting philosophy, so I am glad he addressed it. Also another great quote "If they're looking,w're looking" in regards to soft verbals and the games the kids play nowadays. Let them know it goes both ways too. Love what he said.

    • I agree with Columbus Cane, on the front of conditioning, strength and dietary needs. Al Golden is a smart man and he knows what he is doing with the Miami program. Interesting that with all the suspensions and distractions, we were in every game this year, Miami was not blown out by anyone. The largest margin of defeat this year, I believe was 8pts. in game one against Maryland. Finishing plays, finishing games, (lucky bounce or two) Miami's record could of been a lot better. I do believe, Miami is headed in the right direction with Al Golden, under control until 2020.

  • Golden's vision combined with his gameplan for the type of players to fit the system are a thing of beauty that, if executed in the coming years, can run roughshod over this weak ACC. Big, strong foundations combined with speed and discipline will give the team the chance to manhandle the opposition. Can't really say anything bad about Coach or his path that he's charting.
