Al Golden press conference at ‘The U’

Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden was introduced to the media, fans, alumni, administration and former players on Monday afternoon at the Newman Alumni Center. Below, the presser in its entirety and it will either speak to you, or it won’t.

A lot of fans remain gun-shy, believing that talk is cheap, while others are over the moon after finally hearing from Golden. Either response is understood, though the new head coach absolutely deserves the chance to shine.

Check out the presser and look for a little more Golden talk as the week winds down. From there the talk can shift to beating Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl.

  1. I have such a buzz inside about Al Golden. I believe he is the real deal. You can listen to him talk and just get a sense that he means business.

  2. As a long time Canes fan, I am cautiously optimistic. Watching over the past several years, two big ingredients seem to have been missing. The first is the intangibles- drive, passion, energy, discipline, etc. Those are things that i think Golden can bring.

The second is a consistent offensive scheme and game plan that can put points on the board. The teams that have won Nat'l titles lately have had dynamic offenses that create opportunities to get their athletes in space with the chance to make plays. Alabama was the exception of this but had a ridiculous D. But their offensive shortcomings definitely hurt them this year. Even the SC teams who ran a pro-style offense threw a lot of quick passes to receivers, a lot of screen plays, a lot of 3 step drop stuff. If I go through another Hurricane coaching era of 5-7 step drops, slow developing routes by receivers, watching our qb get knocked down continually, or be forced to continually make tough reads down field, I'll be the first one on the Mike Leach bandwagon next time around. Bring in the right OC, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Love the Hair, reminds me of a young Jimmy Johnson. Here's to hoping he reminds me of Jimmy in more ways than just the hair. 😉

    Go CANES!!!

  4. Daniel – We'll get there.

Kickoff is over two weeks away and is a showdown between two 7-5 teams.

Right now the focus is – and should be – on the hiring of Al Golden, thoughts on the hire and the future of Miami football.

There is ample time to discuss a fourth-tier bowl game as the date approaches.

Definitely glad that Miami is facing Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl … but more excited about the new regime and fired up new coach.
