“I had this picture taken while I was on deployment for a year in Afghanistan. That’s me in the center in ACUs – Khost province, Afghanistan 2008. One of my duties was being in charge of all the local Afghan interpreters and cultural advisors. Fellow Canes sent me old t-shirts and hats and I gave them to the local Afghans working with Coalition Forces – spreading the Cane gospel all over the world! You’re welcome to use the picture.”
Thanks for the pic, Jake… and thanks for all you’ve done for our country. Go Canes!

I'd like to thank Bebber for his service for our freedom. It's great to see him reppin The U, even thousands of miles away.

Props to him for fighting for our great nation and of course, repping the []_[]

seems they have the Canes pegged for a 7-5 record this year... only adds to the "us against the world" mentality. The nation best watch out when the Canes are playing with that kind of chip on their shoulder!
Tony - I think 7-5 would be the worst case scenario this year. Not saying it couldn't happen, but that's be the absolutely low and could be the case if the Canes go 1-3 out the gate.
This is a tough team for the *experts* to lay a prediction on this year. Miami has been off the radar since the 2006 season and the national folk have simply stopped paying attention.
Shannon is entering year three, it's been an coaching carousel regarding assistants and the talent simply hasn't been there -- as proven in last spring's NFL Draft.
I think the "us against the world" mentality is a little bit played out... but I also think there are some young leaders on this team and the culture is changing.
Per Manny's column earlier this week, you have true freshman and sophomores putting in five days a week watching film... while retread Sam Shields (entering his FIRST year at CB after playing WR) is barely mustering up two. Tells you all you need to know about the Coker-type of player that was suiting up between 2006-2008.
Randy's kids *get it* and the more that are playing Saturdays, the better chance these Canes have.
We saw some signs last year, but not enough. It's a year later, which means last year's freshman are older and wiser... and this team is healthier.
Miami could surprise this year... but there could also be some early struggles, due to the schedule.
Nobody knows where this team is at besides the coaches and players themselves.
We'll find out Labor Day in Trailerhassee.
Great picture! Way to represent the U from one side of the world to another. I actually went to China and wore my Canes hat and jacket a lot. Gotta spread the U.
It's All About The U!!!
No problem Chris! I read your blog religiously last year while deployed (painful though it was sometimes) so please know your work is appreciated and enjoyed around the globe …
Go Canes!

I'm tired of everyone talking about the brutal schedule...that talk is for the weak and is a loser mentality, not suitable for a Cane. Time to get back to grass roots Canes and don't care what the schedule is or what people say about us or worry about the things we can't control. Time to go out and do the damn thing and dominate no matter what's in your way.
