Miami picked up three-star defensive tackle Courtel Jenkins, a recent attendee of Golden’s first summer camp last weekend. Jenkins was named Defensive Line MVP and was offered a scholarship by day’s end.
Jenkins, a 6-foot-2 and 310-pounder, is the ninth verbal for the 2014 class and was flying under the radar with only two offers, Pittsburgh and Maryland.
The other addition will be on campus this coming fall as linebacker / running back Walter Tucker of American Heritage chose Miami after visiting campus on Wednesday.
Previously committed to Clemson, Tucker had interest from Texas, Alabama and a few other major players, but his desire to run track pushed some folks away, but this won’t be the first Miami athlete to run track and play ball.
Tucker is a six-foot, 200-pounder recruited by running backs coach Hurlie Brown.
As for the departure of Briscoe, another member of the quickly-slapped-together 2011 recruiting class, it’s a blow as far as bodies are concerned, but another newbie Hurricane who hadn’t made a dent during his time at The U.
Briscoe, originally a defensive lineman who redshirted in 2012, was moved to offensive line this season, which doesn’t say much for where coaches projected him on defense.
Regarding the offensive line, Miami already has depth at the position and three solid prospects on deck for next season; five-star KC McDermott and four-stars Trevor Darling and Reilly Gibbons. (Speaking of McDermott, some funny ink about his recruiting process and his showdown with Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.)
The winds of change continue to blow in Coral Gables. As ‘The Process’ rolls on, a few steps forward, a step back and so forth. Wishing Briscoe the best in his journey and excited to welcome Tucker and Jenkins to The U.
