Testaverde was compiled a 23-3 record as starting quarterback for Miami between 1984 and 1986, with over 6,000 total passing yards and forty-eight touchdowns. He went on to win the Heisman trophy that season, leading the Canes to an undefeated regular season, but went on to fall to No. 2 Penn State in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, throwing five interceptions in a 14-10 loss to the Nittany Lions.
Testaverde went on to be the number one pick in the 1987 NFL Draft, going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had an NFL career that lasted twenty-one seasons, including two Pro Bowl appearances.
Current head coach Al Golden gave the legendary quarterbacks some love today via Twitter: “Congrats to one of the greatest #Canes of all-time, QB Vinny Testaverde, who will be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame.”
Twelve players and two coaches will be inducted to the Hall Of Fame on December 10th in New York City. The rest of the class will be announced on Tuesday May 7th.
