The "Descending On Columbus" GameDay Mix

Big road trip this weekend and those of you headed to Columbus, needing to bring some Miami flavor north with you, we tossed together a 305-inspired mix – certain to set the mood, while annoying folks in the Midwest.

This isn’t the quintessential, be all / end all U-themed game day mix … but it has a good representation of the M-I-A and some gems that are sure to rattle the locals.

Before you start firing off the emails, yes there are some omissions. “Ballin’ Boys” didn’t make the cut because it’s dated and constantly talks about the ’02 Rose Bowl. Also left off tracks that other schools have made theirs ( i.e. – “Enter Sandman” which Virginia Tech uses for their entrance) or tracks that have been too beat up over the years.

Stuck mostly to Miami-style, timeless tracks that we hope you’ll enjoy. Rip yourself a game day mix and bump it proud in Columbus this weekend:

“The U” : Uncle Luke – Mildly cheeseball and dated? Sure … but guaranteed to annoy opposing fans and definitely has that ‘Decade Of Dominance’ 80s flavor to it – the era when everyone hated Miami, more so than today. Barely a minute long, a great way to open the mix. Plus, every UM playlsit needs some Luke … and ‘Throw That D’ didn’t seem appropriate here.

“Rock You Like A Hurricane” : Scorpions – Toeing that hair metal line, this one gets a pass because of the constant mention of rocking you like, well, a hurricane. Recall this one blaring through the Orange Bowl house speakers back in the day and the tune has stood the test of time for both metalheads and Cane fans alike.

“Defend Dade” : DJ Khaled & Pitbull – “Put your money where your mouth is, bet on me”. Pit brings it out the gate, Khaled lays down a great beat and the message is pretty obvious; defend Dade. A little hometown flavor with this track. “Tell them boys to keep running that s**t out they mouth. I’m the guard of my city, can’t knock me down. Your backs won’t last with checks you can’t cash”. Hoping they’re talking about OSU’s running game.

“Shut Up” : Trick Daddy – Straight up jam, tubas take it to next level and the damn video was shot in the Orange Bowl. C’mon now. Cameo by Edgerrin James. Local high school marching bands doing their thing. Forever a game day staple.

“War” : J.T. Money – Poison Clan is old, old school and J.T. is a local hip hop godfather. “War” is another Miami-style track with a unique sound and makes you feel ready for battle. “We knockin down them doors and anything else in my way”. Preach on, Money.

“Hurricanes That’s Us” : Nate “The Great” Brooks – Former UM defensive back Nate Brooks put out an album years back and lyrically this cut is all about The U, so it can’t be denied on game day.

“Miami S**t” : Pitbull – Strong out the gate and second verse comes correct where Pit reminds you, “Show the world what it means to be born and raised in the home of the ‘Canes – that’s the county of Dade”. Great 305 vibe and solid game day track that will scare the natives when road-trippin’.

“B*tch I’m From Dade County” : DJ Khaled – Title says it all and some other locals representing on the track. Rick Ross. Trina. Flo-Rida. Brisco. Trick. Khaled throws ’em all at you and those C-bus folks needs a wake up call Saturday morning.

“Who Dat” : J.T. Money – Old school track from the late 90s that bumped in the Orange Bowl for a short span. Arguably J.T.’s best. Great jam and does Miami proud.

“Welcome To Miami” : Pitbull – Early track from Pit. “This is for everybody in Miami. Put them 305s up. It’s about to get ugly.” Let’s hope so.

“Hustlin'” : Rick Ross – Carol City Cartel representing. Track got beat up pretty good nationally a few years back, but still strong and all Miami.

“Can’t F**k With The South” : Trick Daddy – Definitely one more for beat than lyrical content, but has that Dirty South flavor and Trick is another local modern day godfather who let’s you know he’s in it to win it.

“Never Scared” : Bone Crusher – Dude may be from Atlanta, but seven years later the song still hits. Feel this one. Can’t be scared in front of 105,000, Canes.

“Born N Raised” : Pitbull – “Born and raised in the county of Dade”. Another one that says it all. Another Trick cameo. Miami-style.

“Let’s Go” : Trick Daddy – The marriage of Ozzy’s “Crazy Train” sample and Trick’s rhymes make for another game day gem.

“Playmaker Pre-Game Speech” : Michael Irvin – The marriage of Irvin’s game day speech from years back combined with Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”. Can these Canes get their jobs done? Are they going to write their history? Are they going to let Ohio State stand in the way of creating their moment?

Word is No. 47 has another speech in store for pre-game this weekend. Hopefully that message is delivered loud and clear.

(Note: Special thanks to CaneMike for uploading the mix. The link is good for a week or 100 downloads so when it’s gone, it’s gone. Please don’t email or ask where the link went if you’re looking for it after 9/17/10. Click here for part one and here for part two.)
