Austin (TX) quarterback Preston Dewey became the third quarterback commit for Al Golden and the Hurricanes. Dewey joins Gray Crow and David Thompson, as well as Memphis transfer Ryan Williams, who will sit out this season and will compete for a starting job in 2012.
The 6-foot-3, 210 pound Dewey attended Coach Golden’s summer camp days back, working with offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch and falling in love with Miami. Upwards of 250 high school football players attended the camp, including many big names from in state and across the nation.
Dewey had a handful of offers and in the end chose Miami over Tennessee and North Carolina. Dewey currently attends St. Andrew’s Episcopal School where he is coached by Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer and he plans on joining the Hurricanes next January, in an effort to start competing for the starting job.
The Canes also earned a verbal commitment local product Larry Hope, a cornerback out of American High. Hope is a 5-foot-11, 165 pound corner with offers from Kansas, Wisconsin, Louisville, Nebraska, South Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia.
