Signing Day Underway; Canes Steal Howard

National Signing Day is officially underway and while the expected letters have rolled in, Miami stole one from Florida when the top-ranked cornerback in the nation, Tracy Howard of Miramar, chose ‘The U’ at 12:50pm ET today.

Full coverage forthcoming but for now, celebrate this Signing Day coup courtesy of Al Golden and his staff, who did a hell of a job luring Howard south at the final hour.

It’s great to be …

    1. Wouldn’t say they “snagged” Hamilton, jaded Bulls fan. He was a strong Rutgers commit who the media reported was wavering when Schiano bailed. In the end, he said he was never going to break his commitment to RU and was always headed there no matter who was coach … so quit attempting to turn this into a UM fail.

Obviously nothing going on with USF or you wouldn’t be on a UM site trying to hate on the Howard signing. So typical.

      1. D’Vario Montgomery!

Anyway, congrats on Howard and it looks like you might snag Jameis Winston. My distaste for the Noles and Gators is greater than that for the Canes, so I don’t mind. See you in Miami next year!

  1. thats a huge pickup for miami. Corner was a huge need and now we filled that with some extremely solid guys led by this guy. I think we will see howard play this year alot. i’m not always big on playing freshman right away but this kid should be a dude for us. Now i think miami can move davon johnson back to receiver to help build depth there.

    1. I don’t think you’ll ever find the truth as that story isn’t going to surface. Did the kid bail or did Miami pull a scholarship? Whatever the case, he’s moving on.

Earlier today is was reported that Jawand Blue wasn’t going to have a scholarship if Avery Young chose Miami (he’s headed to Auburn). Blue would then have to wait for someone to not qualify or to grayshirt.

That being the case, sounds like Miami was very low on scholarships and sounds like Holifield wound up odd man out.

Whatever the case, let’s get fired up about who’s here and not where UM might’ve missed or lost a kid. This is a tough business and Golden closed strong as hell today.

  2. No matter how you slice it this is a nice class. Welcome to UM guys! Now, the question is can AG and co. turn these good individual players into a good team. Well see. Go ‘Canes!
