Director Billy Corben and his team at Rakontur put out the most compelling 30 for 30 doc for ESPN last fall when “The U” aired in December. The two-disc set will be released 8/17 and we’re officially taking preorders.

Disc 1 contains the main feature, deleted scenes and director commentary. Disc 2 features four condensed games: Miami @ Duke (10/01/83), South Carolina @ Miami (12/05/87), Miami v. Alabama (01/01/90) and Miami @ Florida State (11/16/91).

Total run time of both discs is 142 minutes.

  1. Any word if there will be a Blu Ray version? 20 bux is too much to pay for a sub standard picture.

From one BluRay geek to another, sadly no, there will be no BluRay version. That wasn't on Rakontur – it was on the ESPN people. Very disappointing.

$19.95 is a fair retail price for regular def as BluRay would've retailed somewhere around $29.95. That's pretty much industry standard.

Yes, you can get BluRay deals at a Besy Buy or Fry's, but the retail, non-sale price is generally in that range.

  3. Just curious, I know the orders our processed in store, but is it something where we get the shipping charge reimbursed then if we followed those guidelines? It's not a big deal, just wondering….

  4. Mike – The site shows a shipping charge, but when we process in store we just charge you for the DVD.

The current site simply isn't set up to not charge shipping for one lone item, so you see a shipping charge online.
