  1. JACORY HARRIS' MIDDLE NAME IS POISE. HE IS THE MOST COOL, CALM, COLLECTED QUARTERBACK WE HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. LET'S GET THAT DEFENSE STRAIGHTENED UP AND WE COULD DO BIG THINGS!

I WAS AT THE MIAMI/FSU GAME LAST NIGHT. WHAT A BLAST, ONCE AGAIN WHAT GREAT CANE FANS!

    FOREVER U.

    -GAINESVILLE CANE

  2. that game was absolutely SICK! Looks like there is a new J-money in the bank and he is earning interest. If they run through the ACC it could be big things to where things used to be….

  3. Did you see the tool wearing the shirt that had "FU*K U" on it. Very nice stuff with all the young kids and elderly women who go to watch college ball. I hope your Mommy is proud of you ! 38-34….yeah, come on !!! Way to go 'Canes !!!

  4. I was at the game also and what a game and what a great win for the boys!! Offense looks so much improved. Hopefully the defense will be okay. Need to get some guys back from injury on defense. Go Canes!!

  5. BZCanes here-

I just watched the game again on ESPN Classic. It's almost just as good the second time around, and gives you a chance to examine the game without all the nervous emotion of watching it live.

First of all it was a classic battle by both teams, and no doubt will be remembered for a long long time.

Many things stood out watching it again. The most obvious was the offense. I know it's early, but I think it is safe to say the Whipple hire was a good one/GREAT one! We finally saw some of the talent we've been stockpiling utilized. Maybe it will not be as easy as teams get game tapes on the new O and a chance for more preparation. Still…I think we're going to be hard to stop. We scored 38 pts and left another 13 at least on the field. Our second drive stalled after a Hankerson drop on 2nd and 10 from the FSU 40 (Hankerson more than made up for this later, but that catch would've put us in field position and given us a 3rd and 2 instead of 3rd and 10)
Our next drive we faced a 3rd and 5 at the FSU 40 again, and Whipple dialed up the perfect play against the blitz. An angle route from JJ out of the backfield, and Harris threw his only bad pass of the night. If he puts that in front of JJ—noone was there to stop him.
Then we had a 1st and goal on the 2 and threw the ball on first and second down…one maybe would've been complete but Mike James fell down. I think if we run JJ 3 times we get 7 instead of 3.

I know that's nitpicking—but the fact is those points were there to be had. That's a huge compliment to our O, Whipple, and Jacory Harris who looked like the senior version of Ken Dorsey lastnight as a true soph.
If our o-line continues to play like that….we could be as dangerous as any team in the country.

We came out of this game with a W, and some areas the coaches can really focus on for improvement.

The biggest thing is the damn kickoff coverage team. The pooch kicks and squib kicks nearly cost us the game. We have to have the confidence in our guys to kick the ball deep and go down and make a tackle. We have the athletes, and even though Bosher doesn't have a huge leg we can still keep them inside the 30 or at the 30/35 at the least. This needs shored up—and fast.

On defense–we did a lot of things really well, and obviously have a lot of things to improve.
It seemed like the gameplan was to play bend but don't break D.
We played mostly zone forcing the underneath throw. I'll say we tackled extremely well in the open field. Hardly any missed tackles and that was a plus. Hopefully we can put some more pressure on with the front 4 and keep out of a lot of man to man. That said–the corners did well when isolated.

What a difference a year made for Brandon Harris. He was torched last year by Greg Carr, and looked extremely bad at times.
This year–he was the ACC player of the week for a DBack, and made a HUGE play in the end zone with 9 seconds left. He also looked like a more aggressive tackler, and played a great game overall. He really looked like a completely different player alltogether.

Sam Shields was a pleasant surprise. He didn't look pretty all the time, but he was effective and really helped our cause lastnight.

Hopefully Vaughn and Ryan can get back soon–but Jared Campbell played as well as can be expected.

If we're going to play the bend, but don't break we can't give up those 3rd and longs—like the 3rd and 23 on the first drive.
A staple of Shannon defenses in those situations in the past has been the cover 2 man. Play man coverage with 2 safeties back to prevent the big play. I'm not sure if they were worried about Ponder breaking the pocket and running or what….but I'd like to see that implemented again. It's nearly impossible to convert a long 3rd down against that coverage.

We have a different challenge with GT coming up—but I'm confident that group will continue to get better.

  6. The bottom line is we did what it took to get the W. The video posted on here with Michael Irvin commentating proved to be exactly true.

WE faced times when things were not going well, but we didn't crack.
We focused, and got the job done.
We came back after being down 23-14, and then again after the huge INT return plus 2 pt conversion.
AFter that FSU had all the momentum–Jacory was banged up and the crowd was jacked.

We converted 3 huge 3rd downs, and punched it in the end zone on a great slant and go to Coop.

They showed a lot of character, and the sky is the limit for this group over the next couple of years.

Jacory Harris thrust himself into the spotlight. The kid was amazing, and made it look easy.

I can't remember the last time we were down in the 4th qtr. (34-31 w/4 min left) and I was extremely confident that we were going to march down the field and score.
It almost seemed like a given—the only thing I was actually worried about was leaving too much time on the clock.

That's a big testament to a young QB with a ton of poise and ability, an o-line that played well all night, and a group of skill guys that made play after play.

    1 down—13 to go hopefully.
I'm really proud of our Canes, and psyched about our future!

We've made up for the FSU game last year, now it's time to revenge that embarrassing loss to GT. It's the home opener, and again in the national spotlight. I hope anyone that can get to the game does.

    continued

We have an opportunity to go 2-0 in the conference—and put ourselves in a great position to win the Coastal.

10 days to prepare, lets rest up, heal up, and get ready for the most important game of the year.

    The next one!
    Long live the U!!!!!!!!
