Miami Hurricanes 2008 Highlight DVD

When you initially think of a 7-6 season, you assume there can’t be too many “highlights”. On one level, I absolutely agree. The flip side is that 2008 was a season fueled by some superstar freshman who will eventually be the guys who bring the Canes back down the road. This highlight DVD showcases all the big plays by those super frosh.

I had 31spoonerstreet compile this montage to not only feature the big plays of last year, but to give a little insight to Randy Shannon and his locker room demeanor.

A lot of folk are quick to say Shannon is too stoic on statuesque on the sideline or doesn’t react enough. Watch this video, check out the pre and post game locker room stuff and see the Coach Shannon these players see on a day in/day out basis. There’s more behind the scowl. Randy “gets” the Miami way and he’s passing decades worth of Hurricane wisdom to every newbie that suits up.

I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m a Shannon supporter and watching this vid convinced me that with the right players and after a few years of his tutelage, Miami will be back.

Enjoy the clip and if you’re interested, click here to order the official DVD.

  • awesome video but i hate robert marve, i want him at s. fla so we can beat him n webster down

  • I hate Marve too, but this clip is pretty bad ass.

You get so caught up in wins and losses that sometimes you forget some of those big plays. Especially the Ls, which get erased from the DVR immediately.

Still makes me sick to watch those FSU highlights. How the hell did we lose that game???

The clips of Randy in the locker room were impressive. I'm still not sold on him, but when you compare his demeanor before a game (or halftime) to Lawrence Edward Coker, who would just fist pump and clap his way to mediocrity - it's a welcomed site.

Shannon definitely knows the Miami culture and when he talks, you can tell he's channeling Jimmy Johnson and the great coaches he had along the way. I'm starting to get a little bit more sold him every day. Still, he better do better than 7-6 this year. I want to see improvement.

Great video. I'm going to score the DVD today. Thanks for the clip.

  • all canes great clip and great post...i enjoy it when you blog like this..i look for things everyday...i had to watch this one twice...and i must say i was at all of the those games but one and i remember every big play...i love seeing my boy from my home town of richmond, va rep it well...epps...hope he gets well from that knee soon...dude is the real deal a physical freak...and you can see that talent is there and it is coming back...randy is doing a good job with these young men...you have to remember these young men are 18-24...people act like they should be playing football like 10 year nfl veterans...the clips of marve drive me nuts too...kid has talent...tons of it...just no peanut between the ears and is a real a hole...oh well...i hope he goes to s florida to so we can get after him...and you know randy will see to it that he gets blitz over and over...

but i want to say this...we as fans ...need to remember these big plays...these young men and not break them down so bad...it is easy to jump all over them after a loss...instead we need to pick them up...look at this clip...these young men work their ass off all year...all year...never gave up...did it because they love football for themselves for the fans...and for the U...remember that the next time you want to scream and holler to cut a kid or something like that...these kids work hard all year...it should be appreciated even if we did have a 7-6 season...we need to take that...pick these young men up...pat them on the back...say thanks...coach up these new recruits...and from that great things will happen..the confidence will come...the support will come...and the talent will develop...before you know it we will be winning 10 games a season again...i mean look at this years schedule...tough...they are going to need the support and encouragement...not all the negative talk...lets support these young men...and as fans...help them get back in right direction...not many people will remember these young men because they are part of the rebuilding process...people will remember the young men from the NEXT national title team...however these young men are the most important ones and the ones that should be appreciated because they will lay the foundation to make it possible...just thoughts to ponder on

  • Great vid, Canes. The 2008 version of this team showed some serious promise. Could've easily have been 9-4 last year. Can't wait for the new season. This clip got the juices flowing. Good stuff.

  • Nice post, VA Cane.

There's a reason players play and armchair quarterbacks do nothing but piss and moan, talking about what they WOULD do IF they were out there.

These kids work their asses off -- and so does this coaching staff, coaching up the new kids and recruiting next year's stars.

Anyone who is critical of this team is in complete denial regarding how far things slipped on Coker's watch. We are entering year three of the Shannon Era and there is some serious talent on board next season.

The Canes are getting better and we'll see another step forward on '09. That might not necessarily show in the Wins/Losses column this year (the early schedule is flat out brutal)... but the depth is being built, experience is gained and 2009 will set the stage for a big run in 2010.

  • Let's play the IF game.

IF Jacory Harris is as good as advertised...

IF the offensive line gets their shit together...

IF the new running backs are worth their weight...

    IF the secondary steps up...

    IF the linebacking core jells....

You look at last season and there was some talent there. More will be on the field this year. Better coaches are on board. Depth is being stockpiled.

Miami isn't there yet, but this clip is proof that SOMETHING is going on at The U again. Give it another year or so and this team will be loaded.

The same way we all look back on the talent on those 1997 or 1999 recruiting classes, that's how 2008 will be remembered.

When guys like Spence, Benjamin, AJ, Jacory, Forston, Robinson, B. Harris, etc. are top flight players, only then will people truly appreciate how important last year's 7-6 season really was.

  • Great post AllCanes.
Wow. Been a fan for about 9 years. And this is about the best Miami video i have ever seen. (besides the highlights from 01) this team is showing people alot. How a coach can recruit and put together a team of his own players to win. And the way that these boys play is something. The swagg is coming back. I like the shot at the end of the seniors.

Any word on if Ray Ray Armstrong is getting #26..i heard that somewhere. but hey. as long as Miami is playing im watching and interest. I look on your site all the time. I love the Cane news and all of that. I love Miami man. But this year ima say 10-2. OU is gonna be tough..Bradford..without his recievers and the line is gone right. And maybe GA Tech..hopefully not.every year same results. we get the L...but good luck canes. and i always wondered what Randy Shannon was saying and im sold on him. good coach..better man. GO CANES>>

  • Awesome clip,,, makes me hungry for September.

Kept waiting to see that replay of the dual de-cleatings during a punt return from early in the year.

Thanks for the appetizer,,,, ready for some 2009 supper.

  • I'm very excited about 2009! A great start is obviously very important with the schedule we have, but I'm sure the coaches will do well with the "1 game at a time" philosophy.

I also want to point out something that I don't hear at all from last year. We Defeated the Eventual ACC Champs and Orange Bowl Champions in Virginia Tech in Primetime last year!

I think one of the things that will pay off in our favor, especially at the start of the season is that it's going to be hard for those FSU's, VT's and Oklahoma's to come up with a great gameplan against our offense (especially FSU) since we have a new Offensive Coordinator and a completely different Offensive Philosophy.

    Should be fun to watch!
