Malik Rosier Chooses Miami Hurricanes

Malik Rosier has made it official and the three-star quarterback plans to join the Miami Hurricanes’ class of 2014, committing to UM coaches on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Rosier had a sit-down with his mom and with both she and he favoring Miami, decided now was as good a time as any to make it official.

“I really like Miami and my mom really likes Miami,” Rosier told AL.com. “We kind of sat down and she said, ‘if you like them, what is really the point in waiting any longer?’ That made sense to me so I went ahead and committed.”

Rosier is considered a versatile quarterback prospect and has been a “fast-riser on the recruiting trail this spring”. He is set to visit Miami this coming weekend.

Rosier was 169-of-305 for 2,238 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, while running for 1,002 yards and 12 touchdowns on 153 carries. A baseball player, as well, Rosier hit better than .400 and was starting catcher for Faith Academy.

Aside from participating in Miami’s camp, Rosier has also attended camps at Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He marks the eighteenth verbal commitment for Al Golden and UM’s 2014 class, as well as the third quarterback, joining Brad Kaaya and Alin Edouard.

IN OTHER NEWS : Back-up quarterback David Thompson has decided to end his football career, focusing solely on baseball at the University of Miami. Thompson had a second surgery on his throwing shoulder days back and met with Golden on Tuesday to let the head football coach know that he will be a one-sport start from this point forward.

While Thompson expected to compete at quarterback, it was always unspoken that baseball was his first sport and the sport he’d play professionally after finishing his collegiate career. As a result Thompson is no longer on a football scholarship and will solely be a baseball scholarship athlete moving forward.

Thompson missed ten games for Jim Morris this pat season, but still batted .286 and hit six home runs.
