Footage from Traz Powell scrimmage

… some footage from Miami’s second scrimmage of the season, up at Traz Powell Stadium:

While the scrimmage footage is always fun to check out, the real meat of this clip comes late in the piece when the coaching staff is breaking down film.

First-year Miami head coach Al Golden quoted one of his mentors, Bill Parcells, when stating that, “what you say you are is your philosophy, but what you put on tape is your identity” – and you can hear that mindset and attitude coming from every coach on this staff.

Defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio literally looks pained when seeing the right formation drawn up, but the tackles not made and play not executed. D’Onofrio calls a 3rd-and-17 completion “painful”, while rubbing his forehead in a frustrated manner.

In another clip offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch had some choice words for his quarterbacks when allCanes’ own Brian ‘The Beast’ London asked what his off-season message was for Jacory Harris and Stephen Morris:

“Study, improve your fundamentals, work on everything that’s been coached over the last five weeks. Make sure that they understand the jump between the end of spring and the start of fall has gotta be a huge jump and it’s their responsibility to make that jump,” said Fisch.

“It’s not our responsibility [as coaches]. We can’t do that for them. So if they want to be ‘the guy’ and they want to step up, they gotta do a lot of work.”

Whether it’s Golden, D’Onofrio or Fisch, you get a sense that all three up-and-comers have a game plan, are no nonsense and will do what it takes to get the most out of these kids, not just wanting excellence, but demanding it. Finally.

Next up, footage from the Spring Game at Lockhart Stadium as soon as the CanesAllAccess Channel has the piece ready to go. Stay tuned. Go Canes.

  • Great post! did notice that Jacory still looks undersized but who cares, this team has a whole new feel to it and its a welcoming sign of greater things to come.
