Canes/Aggies finale delayed until Tuesday…

Miami fans should’ve know their team’s collective fate by this time tonight, but Mother Nature had other plans and the Canes/Aggies will resume the Coral Gables Regional finale at 1pm ET on Tuesday. Our own Brian “The Beast” London was at A-Rod Park for Monday’s game and had the following take before things were shut down in the bottom of the second:

I’m still not dry yet. It’s more than two hours after the Canes game was postponed until Tuesday at 1pm and I’m still trying to get the water out of my ears.

To say the night was wet at A-Rod Park would be like saying Wilt Chamberlin only had his way with a woman or two. I know the NCAA tries to get these games in, but as we looked at the radar tonight, most everyone in the press box could tell we wouldn’t make it to the ninth inning. No way.

So the Canes and Aggies will pick it up Tuesday afternoon with Miami leading Texas A&M 3-2 with two outs, bottom of the 2nd, runner on first.

Who does this help? Texas A&M. A&M will most likely bring back their ace Barret Loux, who dominated FIU on Friday night going eight innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs. He struck out ten while only walking one and his ERA is 2.60. He’ll be tough to face for the Hurricanes, who will have to throw Chris Hernandez at some point tomorrow. I’m not sure if he’ll start, but he’ll be toeing the slab at some point. Trust me.

The other story of the night was the selection of Hurricanes junior catcher Yasmani Grandal by the Cincinatti Reds with the 12th selection in the first round of the MLB draft. Grandal heads to the same organization that drafted former Canes slugger, Yonder Alonso. The Reds drafted a catcher in the first round a few years ago, but it’s not often you can grab a switchhitting catcher that throws out 40 percent of the baserunners that try to run on him.

We were all thinking that Yasmani would find out about his draft status while in the on deck circle or something, but because of the rain delay, he actually got to watch the draft from the clubhouse and got word from his mom that Cincinnati would be his destination.

In a quick press conference after the game was postponed, Jim Morris compared Yasmani to another catcher Morris coached; Jason Varitek at Georgia Tech. Morris said that Yasmani made the right decision to come to college rather than taking the Red Sox offer out of high school.

Considering his draft postion improved by 26 rounds, I’m sure his wallet is thanking him, too.

It’s a do or die Tuesday at A-Rod Park and I’ll be there for all the action. Let’s hope Miami can pull out a win and go on to Gainesville to take down The Gators. Remember you can follow all the action starting right before game time on Twitter @beastshow.
