Powell Switches From Tennessee To Miami

Al Golden and the Miami Hurricanes picked up yet another recruit, bringing the total to twenty-four verbal commitments for the 2014 class.

Three-star running back Brandon Powell out of Deerfield Beach is headed to Coral Gables after appearing Knoxville-bound. Previously a Tennessee commitment, Powell told Volunteers coaches after practice on Saturday that he wants to play for UM next fall.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound running back is said to be a tireless worker with great vision and a big time burst. He has also played cornerback and receiver and is listed as an “athlete” on some recruiting sites, but is expected to compete at running back for Miami. Powell also runs a 4.4 forty-yard dash and brings much to the table overall.

Powell will graduate in December and states that his commitment is solid, but that he’ll still take his official visits. Powell ran for 1,180 yards and fourteen touchdowns last season and had 247 receiving yards and found the end zone three times.
