When the Miami Hurricanes take the field this fall, it’s a known fact that there will be voids to fill in the secondary and at linebacker. Running back is a different story, all together.
Barry Jackson had some recent ink in the Miami Herald where head coach Al Golden spoke of the abundance of talent and depth at the tailback position.
“The first thing I wrote after Saturday’s practice,” Golden said, “is find a way to get more than one running back on the field. I’m going to tell you, we’re extremely blessed at running back.”
Golden has not only praised the running backs as the strength of the offense, but at a recent luncheon made it know that the ground game is arguably his team’s strongest link.
Storm Johnson recently took over the top spot on the depth chart, with leading returning rushing Lamar Miller at the two. Mike James is three and was the one Golden elaborated on.
“When I first got here, I thought Michael James was a kid that’s tough, that’s always going to do what you ask him to do. Could be a tough inside runner. What I found is that he’s more than that. He’s elusive, a big back at 220 pounds. I’m really excited about that group, so much so that we could take Eduardo Clements and move him to corner.”
Clements to corner truly emphasizes the abundance of talent with the ground game, as well as the help needed in the secondary.
IN OTHER NEWS : A summary of the going-ons regarding Miami football … Jacory Harris remains a top the ever-changing depth chart, with Coach Golden stating that Harris “has had an incredible off-season and a really good spring so far.” Stephen Morris remains as the two, with Golden praising a “really strong arm” and stating that coaches are excited about the sophomore. When it comes time to choosing a starter, Golden is looking to see who can distinguish himself and build the offense around him … Coach Golden called Tommy Streeter one of Miami’s “most improved players”, which is a must as someone will need to step in, filling the big shoes of the departed Leonard Hankerson … defensive tackle Marcus Forston is “banged up” and while coaches aren’t elaborating, the initial online report is a knee injury … Malcolm Bunche continues pushing Seantrel Henderson for the top spot at left tackle.
