It honestly sounds too awful to be true. Former Miami cornerback Glenn Sharpe has been arrested in Georgia and charged with the February 20th, 2012 murder of Christopher Galloway. Sharpe is accused of shooting Galloway three times during an altercation in Stone Mountain earlier this month.
Sharpe was born in Miami and played for the hometown Hurricanes. He’s obviously best known for the controversial, delayed pass interference call in the first overtime of the 2003 Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State.
Sharpe, a true freshman at the time, was covering Buckeyes’ wideout Chris Gamble and appeared to have played the ball, but was eventually flagged by field judge Terry Porter. During that four-second decision by the Porter, Sharpe and the Canes began celebrating what appeared to be a thirty-fifth straight victory and back-to-back national championships.
Sharpe began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2008 and spent time with the New Orleans and Indianapolis. He won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints as a member of the practice squad, defeating the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
The twenty-eight year old Sharpe was arrested without incident at his Lawrenceville home and is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail.
A tragic story including the ending of one life and destruction of another. One can only imagine what led Sharpe to (allegedly) choose wrong when facing such a life-altering moment.
God be with both the Galloway and Sharpe families. What a tragic twist and turn in a young man’s life.
