Ray Lewis and Ed Reed; Super Bowl Champs

ray lewis ed reed miami hurricanes super bowl winners san franciscoYes, there are some other Hurricanes who got rings tonight. Offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie and scout team running back Damien Berry … but it really is all about the legendary Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Lewis got his first ring in 2000 and Reed won a national title with the Hurricanes in 2001, but the journey since has been long and hard, going a decade without tasting the ultimate glory.

That all ended Sunday night in New Orleans when the Baltimore Ravens knocked off the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII.

Lewis announced his retirement weeks back and from that point Baltimore had spirited playoff wins over Indianapolis, Denver and New England, before winning it all this evening, while Reed, having battled injury the past few years, came up huge with an interception in the big game, despite spraining his MCL earlier in the contest.

Two of the greatest Hurricanes in the program’s history are champions tonight.

One more reasons, IT’S GREAT TO BE …

  1. I have been a Bears fan for 25 plus years but I have always followed all former Canes. The Ravens have two of the greatest Canes of all time, along with McKinnie, and Berry. It is great to see Ray and Ed get one togther, and for Ray to ride of into the “Miami” sunset. Congrats to RAY, ED, BRYANT, and DAMIEN.

  2. Did anyone notice that when it came down to the last series for SF, the reason for the 4 plays from the 7 was the play with two Canes. Frank Gore around the end. But for the pursuit of Ed Reed, who got just enough of him to make him lose balance and step out on the 7, he might have scored or definitely would have been closer to the goal line. Canes in the middle of the biggest plays of the biggest game. As it should be.
