Miami Hurricanes Athletes Tops In APR Ranks

Five University of Miami teams recently earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for Academic Progress Rate scores among the top 10-percent in the sports nationally and this week the NCAA announced the full APR scores for every institution, with UM again amongst the most accomplished programs.

The only three BCS schools to earn an APR score of 980 or better in football, baseball and men’s basketball; Miami, Northwestern and Duke. Regarding the Canes, baseball earned a perfect score of 1,000 while football and men’s basketball both posted a 980.

Men’s diving, women’s cross country and women’s golf also scored perfect, while ten of eighteen UM programs scored 980 or better with football, baseball and men’s basketball increasing their APR scores annually every year since 2005.

These aren’t stats that fans of ‘The U’ will jump for joy over, but in regards to alumni and those folks who consider the University of Miami more than just a sports factory, this is a huge feather in the cap of a little private school in Coral Gables, proving it can succeed ‘on the field’ and off.

Great job UM student athletes. Way to live up to your title.

  1. This just shows that The U is a complete university, not just using up someone’s eligibility and casting him or her aside afterwards. These students are getting the job done off the court, field and whaveter other arena he or she participates in. This is another great selling point that I hope all of the coaches are using in their pitch to recruits. Great athletics and great academics at a small, private university.
